Project Sectors

Project Categories

We supply reclaimed lumber to projects across every sector of the building industry. Here are the categories of work we handle most frequently.

Residential

40+

From full-home renovations to single-room accent features, our reclaimed lumber brings warmth, character, and history to residential projects of every scale. We work with homeowners, general contractors, and interior designers to select the right species, grade, and finish for each space.

Commercial

25+

Restaurants, retail spaces, offices, and co-working environments benefit from the visual impact and sustainability story of reclaimed wood. Our commercial projects range from bar tops and feature walls to full buildouts with reclaimed flooring, paneling, and structural beams.

Historic Restoration

15+

Restoring historic structures demands materials that match the original species, dimensions, and character. We specialize in sourcing period-accurate reclaimed lumber for churches, courthouses, warehouses, and residential landmarks, working closely with restoration architects and preservation boards.

Hospitality

12+

Hotels, boutique inns, and bed-and-breakfasts use reclaimed wood to create memorable guest experiences. Our hospitality projects include lobby renovations, guest room accent features, dining room installations, and outdoor entertaining spaces built with reclaimed decking and pergola timbers.

Institutional

8+

Schools, universities, libraries, and community centers choose reclaimed lumber to demonstrate environmental responsibility while creating inspiring spaces. Many institutional projects require LEED certification, and our documentation packages support the submission process.

Mixed-Use Development

6+

Modern mixed-use buildings combine residential, commercial, and community spaces under one roof. We supply reclaimed lumber for common areas, lobby features, retail tenant improvements, and residential unit accents, coordinating multi-phase deliveries with complex construction schedules.

Types of Projects We Handle

Our reclaimed lumber is used in a wide range of applications, from standard flooring installations to one-of-a-kind architectural features. Here are the project types we supply most frequently.

Our Process

How We Approach Every Project

Whether you need 200 board feet for an accent wall or 12,000 board feet for a multi-unit buildout, every project follows our proven five-step process.

01
01

Consultation

We start by understanding your project: the space, the design intent, the species and grade preferences, the timeline, and the budget. Whether you contact us by email at info@boston-lumber.com or visit our Medford facility in person, this conversation shapes everything that follows.

02
02

Material Selection

Based on your project requirements, we recommend specific species, grades, and dimensions from our current inventory. For large or specialty projects, we can source additional material from our network of salvage partners. Samples are available upon request.

03
03

Custom Milling

Your lumber is milled to your exact specifications: width, thickness, profile (tongue-and-groove, shiplap, square-edge), and face treatment (smooth, skip-planed, wire-brushed, rough-sawn). Every piece is inspected during milling.

04
04

Quality & Documentation

Each lot is graded, measured, and documented. Moisture content is verified. Applicable certifications and chain-of-custody records are prepared. Your complete documentation package is assembled and delivered with your order.

Delivery & Support

We coordinate delivery to your job site on a schedule that aligns with your construction timeline. After delivery, our team remains available for technical questions, additional material needs, and installer referrals.

Client Feedback

What Our Clients Say

We work with architects, contractors, homeowners, and developers. Here is what they have to say about working with Boston Lumber.

We specified Boston Lumber for our restaurant renovation because we needed materials that told a story. The heart pine flooring they supplied is 130 years old and more beautiful than anything available new. Their documentation made our LEED submission effortless.

Sarah M.
Architect -- French Quarter Restaurant Renovation

As a general contractor, I need suppliers I can rely on for quality, consistency, and on-time delivery. Boston Lumber has delivered on every project. Their grading is accurate, their moisture content is where they say it is, and the material is always clean and ready to install.

James K.
General Contractor -- Warehouse District Loft Conversion

Our church restoration required species-matched lumber that looked like it had always been there. Boston Lumber found us longleaf pine that matched our 1890s framing perfectly. The congregation cannot tell where the original ends and the replacement begins.

Rev. Thomas L.
Building Committee Chair -- Historic Church Restoration

I was renovating my home and wanted reclaimed wood for environmental reasons, but I was worried about quality and safety. Boston Lumber tested everything, provided all the documentation, and the white oak flooring they supplied is the most beautiful floor I have ever seen.

Patricia D.
Homeowner -- Garden District Residential Remodel

Common Questions

Project FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most often from builders, architects, and homeowners planning projects with reclaimed lumber.

Q1What is your minimum order size for a project?

There is no strict minimum order. We regularly supply orders ranging from 100 board feet for a single accent wall to 12,000+ board feet for multi-unit commercial buildouts. Smaller orders are welcome and receive the same attention to grading, documentation, and preparation as large-scale projects. Contact us at info@boston-lumber.com with your project details.

Q2How far in advance should I order for my project?

We recommend contacting us at least 4-6 weeks before you need material on site. This allows time for species selection, grading, custom milling if needed, kiln drying, and delivery coordination. For large orders (over 5,000 board feet) or custom species matching, 8-12 weeks is ideal. Rush orders may be possible depending on current inventory -- contact us to discuss your timeline.

Q3Do you deliver to the job site?

Yes. We coordinate delivery directly to your job site throughout New England and beyond. Deliveries within Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine are handled on our own trucks. For projects outside New England, we work with trusted freight carriers and can coordinate liftgate delivery, inside delivery, or dock-to-dock shipping as needed.

Q4Can you match lumber from an existing structure for a restoration?

Species matching for restoration work is one of our specialties. Send us a sample or detailed photos of the existing lumber, along with the species (if known), dimensions, and approximate age of the structure. Our grading team will search our inventory for the best match in species, grain pattern, color, and texture. We have successfully matched lumber for structures dating from the 1830s through the 1950s.

Q5Do you provide installation services?

We are a lumber supplier, not an installation contractor. However, we work with a network of experienced installers, finish carpenters, and timber framers throughout New England who specialize in working with reclaimed wood. We are happy to provide referrals based on your project location and scope. We also provide detailed installation guidelines and technical support for your installer.

Q6What certifications and documentation do you provide with project orders?

Every project order can include chain-of-custody records, grade certificates, moisture content reports, species verification, environmental impact reports, and lead/hazmat testing results (for pre-1978 source structures). For LEED projects, we provide pre-formatted submission packages. All documentation is available at no additional charge. Visit our certifications page for full details.

Q7Can I visit your facility to hand-select material for my project?

Absolutely. Our facility at 37 Linden St, Medford, MA 02155 is open for customer visits by appointment. We encourage architects, designers, and homeowners to visit and hand-select material for projects where visual consistency and character are critical. Our team will walk you through available inventory and help you choose the best stock for your application. Email info@boston-lumber.com to schedule a visit.
