Our Facility
Yard Layout & What You'll Find
Our 15,000+ square foot facility at 37 Linden St is organized into six specialized zones, each designed for maximum efficiency and easy customer navigation. Every zone plays a critical role in transforming raw salvaged material into ready-to-use reclaimed lumber.
Receiving Zone
Where all incoming salvaged material arrives. Our receiving crew inspects each load for species mix, estimated board footage, and condition. Material is tagged with source, date received, and estimated species before moving to processing. Trucks are weighed on our in-ground scale for accurate volume tracking. The receiving zone handles an average of 3-5 truckloads per week from demolition and deconstruction sites across New England.
Processing Zone
The heart of our operation. Equipped with de-nailing stations, a metal detector, bandsaw resaw, industrial planer, profile moulder, and drum sander. Raw salvaged boards are cleaned, de-nailed, scanned for embedded metal, and milled to customer specifications. Processing output is staged by order number for quality verification before moving to shipping. This zone operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
Grading Zone
Every board passes through our grading zone before entering inventory. Graders identify species, assess structural integrity, measure moisture content, evaluate character marks, and assign NHLA-based grades. Material is then sorted into inventory racks by species, grade, and dimension. Our grading team conducts weekly calibration sessions to ensure consistency across all graders. Documentation for each batch is maintained in our tracking system.
Kiln Zone
Our on-site kiln has 5,000+ board feet capacity per cycle and runs continuous schedules for species-specific drying profiles. The kiln zone includes a staging area for pre-kiln stacking, the kiln chamber itself, and a cooling and acclimation area. Temperature and humidity are monitored electronically throughout each cycle. Kiln-dried material is verified with pin-type moisture meters before release to inventory. ISPM-15 heat treatment certification is available for applicable batches.
Showroom & Customer Service
Our front-of-yard office building features a climate-controlled showroom with sample displays of every species and grade we carry. The consultation area includes a large work table where you can review samples alongside your project drawings and photos. Species identification reference boards, finish samples, and profile options are all displayed for easy comparison. Our customer service team is based here and handles walk-in consultations, quote requests, and order coordination.
Shipping & Loading Zone
Designated area for customer pickups and outbound deliveries. Pull-through access for trucks and trailers up to 53 feet. A forklift-operated loading dock handles palletized shipments, while ground-level bays accommodate customer vehicles for hand-loading with staff assistance. A banding station adjacent to the loading area ensures all orders are properly secured for transport. Completed orders are staged by pickup date for efficient retrieval.

Do I need an appointment to visit the yard?
No. Walk-ins are welcome during all regular business hours (Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Saturday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM). However, we recommend scheduling an appointment for large order pickups, custom milling consultations, or detailed project discussions so we can prepare materials and dedicate staff time to your visit.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. For commercial accounts and contractors with established credit, we offer Net-30 payment terms upon credit approval. A 50% deposit is required for custom milling orders and bulk orders over 2,000 board feet.
Can I hand-select my own boards?
Absolutely. We encourage customers to hand-select boards whenever possible, especially for furniture projects, visible flooring, and feature walls where individual board character matters. Our staff will guide you to the appropriate inventory section and provide a cart or trolley for collecting your selections.
Do you offer delivery?
Yes. We deliver throughout New England using our own fleet of flatbed trucks. Delivery is available Monday through Friday. Delivery fees are based on distance and order size. For orders over 3,000 board feet within 50 miles, delivery may be included at no additional charge. Email info@boston-lumber.com for a delivery quote.
What is your return policy?
We accept returns of unprocessed material within 14 days of purchase with original receipt. Custom-milled material is non-returnable unless there is a quality defect. Can I bring my contractor or designer to review materials?
Yes, and we encourage it. Bringing your contractor, architect, or designer to our yard ensures everyone is aligned on species, grade, and finish before ordering. We have a consultation area with a large work table, good lighting, and sample displays. Appointments are recommended for group visits so we can ensure adequate staff availability.
Do you ship outside of New England?
Yes. We ship reclaimed lumber nationwide via common carrier (LTL freight). Material is palletized, banded, and shrink-wrapped for transit protection. Freight costs are quoted per order based on weight, volume, and destination. Email info@boston-lumber.com with your project specifications and zip code for a complete delivered price.
How do I sell reclaimed lumber to Boston Lumber?
We purchase reclaimed and salvaged lumber from demolition contractors, property owners, and salvage operators.
